Objectives

CONSTRUCTION Module:
Knowledge and understanding:
Systemic approach to the study having as track the topics of the lectures.

Knowledge and applied understanding:
Transfer the theoretical knowledge to the final design of parts of the building broadening and deepening the arguments.

Making judgments:
Critical awareness of the complexity and problems inherent in building design.

Communication skills:
Spur to the direct participation both during the exercises and the lessons to form the habit of verbal communication as well as written.

Ability to learn:
Formation of a method of research and learning to allow, during the profession, to better perform the tasks assigned.

PRODUCTION Module:
Knowledge and understanding:
Students acquire a good knowledge about techniques and tools for planning and scheduling of the execution phase of a construction project.

Knowledge and applied understanding:
Students will be able to apply the skills acquired through hours of practice, which will allow them to experience the real problems of the execution phase of the project.

Making judgments:
Students develop critical awareness of the complexity and problems in the management of a construction project.

Communication skills:
The course is aimed to transfer to the students skills and tools for verbal and written communication, developing in them both the ability to work in teams and to operate with defined levels of autonomy.

Ability to learn:
Students develop learning skills necessary to undertake professional activity with a high degree of autonomy and efficiency.

Contents

CONSTRUCTION Module:
The Construction Module, in accordance with the educational activities of the Laboratory, will have as general topic of the year: planning a service for the “Metropolitana” (tube) of Cagliari.
The topic to develop comprises both the plan of the total area (assigned for the urban transport) and the design of a shelter.
The generic title of the topic is:
Tensile for the Public Transport of Cagliari.
The tensile, as main design must be devised as a light architecture able to carry out at the same time the following function:
Shelter (from sun, rain, wind etc.);
The membrane tensile will be composed by load-bearing elements (metal or wooden struts and ropes) and one or more membranes.
Functional solution must take in mind of the size, the requirements in order to the Law 13 (disabled), the particular environmental conditions, orientation etc.
Models have a great importance for the elaboration of the project: the material and the scale at which the models will be realized is the student's choice, but they still constitute factor in assessing (such as correctness of the representation). It is required the realization of at least two models: the first relating to the first steps of the project (scale 1:200 or lesser); the second on detail of the tensile structure (at least scale 1:100 – 1:50 or greater). Other scale of representation can be accepted in agreement with the Teacher. The study designs should only be realized freehand, while choosing on the final rendering mode is left to the student's choice.
Required:
2 Models;
A book of the final drawings (only and strictly on A3 format),
2 Posters on A1 format;
CD/DVD with all images of the project: graphic printouts (pdf), photos of the relief, model and its steps (ipg).
The frequency in the activities is compulsory (being a Lab). The presence will be registered and maximum twelve hours of absence are accepted.
Please note that at the start of the activities, the registration card to the Module will be taken and the each student's attendance sheet will be signed, then every student will carry them both already printed. The student's attendance sheet must be shown to each activity and it will be signed each time from Teacher or Tutor.
The works will be evaluated and voted at the end of the activities.
The teaching module is organized jointly by the teacher and tutorials / reviews for a total commitment of approximately 50 hours.
Attendance at activities is compulsory (in a Lab.) are then recorded the presence and allow a maximum number of hours of absence equal to 20% of the total (10 hours).

PRODUCTION Module:
The module relates to the application of project management techniques and tools to construction. Starting from the design theme developed in the construction module, students, divided into groups of suitable size, analyze aspects regarding the execution phase. After defining in detail the project, students specify the execution phases, the operating procedures, security risks, time and costs of the intervention. Each group, applying project management techniques and tools presented during the frontal lessons, proceeds with:
• Project decomposition into products and operating phases (PBS and ABS);
• Count quantity of product;
• Planning operating phases;
• Definition and allocation of human resources, materials, vehicles and equipment;
• Definition of security risks and operational methods of reduction / elimination;
• Structuring costs and requirements;
• Structuring time.

CONSTRUCTION Module:
62.5 h of lessons and workshops

PRODUCTION Module:
The module consists of frontal lessons, tutorials and reviews for a total of 62.5 hours. In particular:
FRONT LESSONS
They are held by the teacher and related to:
• The current scenario. The complexity of the building process.
• Introduction to Project Management.
• Project management in construction.
• The technical process of planning.
• The technical process of scheduling.
• Knowledge management in construction.
• Techniques for monitoring the progress of work.
TUTORIALS/REVIEWS
tutorials and reviews represent a critical step and take place in the classroom with groups of 3 students. The groups are preferably the same as the CONSTRUCTION module. Students must carry out their work mainly in the classroom equipping with suitable tools and materials.

Verification of learning

The Poster concerns the insertion in the context and the preliminary, executive and detail design of the architectural work.
The drawings should clearly represent the design and construction features of the project.
Best works can be inserting in some publications of the Faculty. The frequency in the activities is compulsory (being a Lab). The presence will be registered and maximum twelve hours of absence are accepted (20% of the total duration).
The precise articulation of the activities can be found in the student's attendance sheet.
Please note that at the start of the activities, the registration card to the Module will be taken and the each student's attendance sheet will be signed, then every student will carry them both already printed. The student's attendance sheet must be shown to each activity and it will be signed each time from Teacher or Tutor.
The works will be evaluated and voted at the end of the activities. The vote will be registered, at the end of the semester, as the weighted average with that relating to the Production Module.


PRODUCTION Module:
The final evaluation of the students is focused on the operational plan developed by each group. The evaluation criteria are:
• level of detail achieved;
• level of congruence between the operational plan developed and the specific problems of the project;
• level of representation.
Are required:
• CD / DVD with all the documents that make up the operational plan.
