1) Knowledge and understanding
• achievement of methodological and operational knowledge in the field of road design in an urban environment;
• acquisition of intellectual knowledge, techniques, and multidisciplinary scientific aimed at the design of quality urban spaces;
2) Applying knowledge and understanding
• acquisition of adequate capacity to move towards specialized fields relevant to the discipline (urban planning, lighting, green design, etc.).
• knowledge of the main road design techniques in urban areas (with special attention to intersections, pedestrian and cycle paths, weak users, home-school routes), the design of the traffic calming systems and roundabouts.
• knowing how to read and apply the national and international road design standards.
3) Making judgments
• detection capabilities of the main problems of an urban area and identification of interventions. Capacity for analysis of road intersections and their criticality.
4) Communication skills
• sensitivity in addressing the socio-cultural issues related to urban life and mobility;
• ability to present and transfer to non-technical profiles the importance and purpose of the intervention;
5) Learning skills
• identification of the design solutions to reduce or eliminate the critical issues in urban road design, using design concepts learned throughout the course. Development of the road project in urban areas.

The course is divided in two parts.
Part A covers road problems and traffic calming for a total amount of 15hours.
Part B relates to the design of roundabouts and pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure for a total amount of 22hours.
Concern the design of green and will be taught by experts in the specific field. The duration is 3 hours total.
The teaching will be delivered simultaneously both in presence and online, thus outlining a mixed teaching that can be enjoyed in university classrooms but also at a distance. At the beginning of the semester, each student can opt, with a binding choice, for face-to-face or distance teaching. Depending on the availability of the classrooms and the number of students who opt for the face-to-facemode, there may be a shift for effective classroom access.
Verification of learning
The test consists of two test having as target the main content of the course divided in two parts (part A e part b). The final vote, therefore, depend on the quality and correctness of the exposure of the student during the written tests, making the average rating had in every individual tests. If the avarage vote is higher than 18/30, the exam is passed.
