In line with the educational objectives of the Degree Course in Architectural Sciences, the aim of the course is to make the student acquire knowledge, fundamental skills and competences in the field of architectural and environmental survey and representation, declined according to the five Dublin Descriptors, and detailed below.
- Knowledge and understanding: to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the different detection techniques in all the different phases and at different scales of survey (architectural and territorial), from sketches to scientific restitution, of projections listed and of the representation techniques of landscape components.
- Applied Knowledge and Ability to understand: understand and interpret spatially the architecture and the environment and manage the graphic models as a support for knowledge and / or project; ability to observe from different scales of investigation and translation of geometric and visual qualities through graphic language; ability to apply and understand the techniques of representation at different scales of investigation, from important sketches to scientific restitution;
- Autonomy of judgment: ability to place oneself in a critical position in front of the investigated architectural and environmental context, to understand and assimilate a portion of territory and to create and communicate more personalized readings through the traditional, digital or integrated graphic sign;
- Communication skills: use the graphic sign and the technical standards of the design at different levels of definition of the path of knowledge entrusted to the survey in its different survey scales; managing the drawing as a tool for analysis, coding, synthesis and choosing the most appropriate means and forms of expression according to the objectives and the scale of the survey;
- Learning skills: develop the skills necessary to undertake further studies with a high degree of autonomy.


Knowledge of the methods of descriptive geometry (orthogonal projections, axonometric projections, perspective projections) and of the basic notions of the life drawing of architecture and of the city


Geometrical matrices. Applications in the drawing/design of architecture and the city
Historical excursus on the application of geometric matrices and graphic-design processes in the drawing, survey and design of the architecture and the historical city.
Elements of descriptive geometry: quoted projection method- Representation of the point, the straight line and the plan; interval and slope; straight level; straight lines of slope; line of maximum slope; relationship between range and slope; passage quoted from the projections to orthogonal projections.
Applications: graphic resolution of hipped roofs elementary and complex with polygon eaves level square and polygonal, with a constant and variable slope., hipped roof eaves on two polygons (courtyard house) lying stretched out on the floor and on different levels.
The representation of the territory and the landscape. Historical excursus "from the Ptolemaic maps to the work of the Piedmontese officers in Sardinia" and applications aimed at the graphic analysis and representation of the landscape components of a portion of the territory.
The survey and the representation - The teaching activity is divided into lectures, seminars and practical applications (also in coexistence with the teacher responsible for the Topography Module) concerning the survey and the graphic restitution, in the different scale of representation -architecture, urban and territorial - of historical-traditional and contemporary architectures.

Teaching Methods

In order to verify the learning of basic theoretical contents and methods of representation, parallel to the frontal lessons, activities of laboratory teaching, didactic experiences in the field, graphic exercises developed in the classroom and in the field are carried out.
To meet specific educational needs related to the epidemiological situation, the possibility of live streaming lessons may be provided and the exercises may be carried out through forms of interaction at a distance with the available computer supports.
Lectures: 15 hours
Laboratory / practice / revision: 50 hours
Seminar: 5 hours

Verification of learning

The evaluation of the student provides an oral exam in which the student will be called to discuss the graphics developed during the course and theoretical insights treated; the student will be called, in addition, to the resolution of some graphic tests on the topics addressed in the programme. The student is also called to the presentation and discussion of an individual poster and a group poster in which he explains the results of the activity.
The student will have to demonstrate the knowledge of the theoretical foundations of architectural survey and the representation of architecture and environment.
The final score, expressed in thirtieths, is attributed by means of a weighted average of the evaluations attributed to the various questions and the exhibition capacity. In the evaluation of the exam, the determination of the final grade takes into account the following elements:
1. the logic followed by the student in the resolution of the question;
2. the correctness of the procedure chosen for the solution of the question;
3. the adequacy of the proposed solution in relation to the skills that the student is supposed to have acquired at the end of the course;
4. the use of appropriate language.
5. the level of the graphic drawings provided for in the programme and carried out during the course.
The presentation and delivery of all the graphic material produced in the classroom and in individual and group exercises, is one of the requirements for access to the final exam. To pass the exam, then achieve a grade of not less than 18/30, the student must demonstrate that he has acquired sufficient knowledge of the topics covered during the course and be able to develop and solve the required graphic tests. To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must instead demonstrate that he has acquired an excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course and an excellent mastery in the development and resolution of the problems raised by the teacher.
