Objectives

The integrated laboratory is based on the principle of “learning by doing”, and expects that the student start from experimental design to go back to the analysis and understanding of the scientific principles that underlie technological architecture solutions.
We will explain the various configurations of the elements necessary to "support, cover, close, divide and equip the architectural space" in relation to the choice of materials and technologies and their static and energetic behavior.
In particular, the work will be focused on the analysis of the construction methods and the identification of key points, solutions and alternatives design in relation to the performance requirements, regulations, procedures.

Prerequisites

The skills required for the Architectural Technology module are: basic knowledge of design, history and science disciplines, developed by the student during the 1st semester .

BRICK BUILDING SYSTEMS.
Masonry construction
Masonry structural behavior .
Masonry for building envelope.
Materials for masonry walls. Brick work.
The structural design of masonry buildings.
Retaining, self-supporting, infill walls. Pillars and columns.
Openings in the walls: architraves, jack arches, arches.

BUILDING SYSTEMS IN WOOD.
The structural behavior of wood.
Wood and wood products as building materials.
Trusses and wood frame floors.

BUILDING SYSTEMS IN CONCRETE
Structural behavior and construction process.
reinforced concrete slabs and mixed.
Reinforced concrete stairs.

FOUNDATIONS

Teaching Methods

The Architectural technology module will be mainly developed through lectures and partly through seminars held by visiting experts. The workshop practical exercise will consist in the “engineerisation” of the project developed during the 1st semester module of architectural composition.

Verification of learning

Oral test in two phases:
1) Presentation and discussion of the technology project developed during the workshop
2) Oral exam to test knowledge of the course topics and bibliography.
