Objectives

Objectives

The course is divided in two parts: a theoretical one (20 hours) and a practical one (90 hours).
Students will be able to define the functions and categories of German grammar at all linguistic levels (from morpheme to text), and to examine the structure of words, phrases, clauses and sentences occurring in different text typologies.

After attending the German Language III course (both the theoretical and the practical part) students will have:

- a written and oral linguistic competence at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
- a knowledge of the theoretical tools for linguistic analysis and the specialised language and terminology of the discipline (metalinguistic competence), especially concerning text linguistics;
- an adequate knowledge of German history, geography and culture (Landeskunde).

Funktional-pragmatische Textanalyse am Beispiel einiger Textsorten wie Briefe, Gebrauchsanweisungen, Werbetexte, Zeitungsartikel, Berichte, Kochrezepte, usw.

LETTORATO

- Weitergabe von Informationen, indirekte Rede: Konjunktiv I und Modalverb sollen;
- Deontische und epistemische Verwendung der Modalverben/ Verbi modali: modalità deontica ed epistemica;
- Passiv und Passiversatzformen;
- Partizipialattribute: Partizipien als Adjektive und erweiterte Partizipien;
- Modal-,Temporal-, Konzessiv-, Konditionalangaben (Satzverbindungen/Konnektoren und
Präpositionen, Umformung von Präpositionalangaben in Nebensätze und umgekehrt);
- Konjunktiv II
- Deklination der Adjektive;
- Nomen-Verb-Verbindungen.
- - Verben, Adjektive, Nomen + Präpositionen/ Verbi, nomi, aggettivi con preposizione.

- Lectures (20 hours)
- Practical classes (lettorato, 90 hours taught by a mother-tongue German instructor)
In order to meet specific educational needs related to the epidemiological situation, live streaming lessons or recordings of them will be available online. In addition, it would be possible to conduct the lab courses through forms of remote interaction with the available technology.


Attending lectures and classes is not compulsory but is highly recommended.

METHOD OF ASSESSMENT: combined written and oral tests.

1) The written examination will include: Part 1 (lettorato): a) Grammar exercises (only for students, who dont attend classes as well as for students, who have failed both Mid-Term Assessments); b) a composition (Textproduktion);
Part 2: functional text analysis (linguistics).

The use of monolingual dictionaries will be permitted only for the Textproduktion.

2) In the oral examination students will be invited a) to discuss in German about the contents of a text, which they have to read. The text will be about German history, geography and culture (Landeskunde, contents are to be found on the lecturers home page).
b) to comment upon their written tests and discuss about the theoretical part.

3) Listening-comprehension: two mid.term assessments will be organised during the course. Only those students who will regularly attend the lectures will be entitled to take part to the mid-term assessments. Those students who don't pass the assessments and not attending students will make their listening-comprehension during the final exam.
4) Two mid-term assessments about grammatical items will be organised in December and in May (Grammatikteil). Only those students who will regularly attend the lectures will be entitled to take the mid-term assessments. Those students who pass both the mid-term assessments will be entitled to take only a part of the final exam (Textproduktion).

Assessment criteria
Written test:
- Linguistic competences foreseen in the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
-Grammar and lexis;
- The lexico -grammatical accuracy of the composition;
-Development of argumentative skills in the composition;
-Students skills to understand and to discuss about a text;
- The ability to analyze structure and function of different text typologies (linguistics)

Oral test:
- The students acquisition of the German Language at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
- The ability to use the appropriate terminology in explaining contents (metalinguistic competence);
-the ability to understand and to repeat the content of an oral text;
- Knowledge of the theoretical tools related to linguistic analysis and the specialised language and terminology of the discipline;
- The students will have to show that they have acquired the right terminology and concepts and that they can apply them to practical cases.
The final mark will be awarded on the basis of the level of learning demonstrated in each of the individual areas of analysis.
Written exams may be replaced by different methods of verification, such as individual or group work (essays), oral interviews, remote written exams through Moodle, Teams and other tools, or completely cancelled in the case of mid-term assessments.
