1. Knowledge and understanding

- knowledge and understanding experimental methods in educational research.

2. Applying knowledge and understanding

- understanding and critical analysis of educational research reports;
- developing an experimental project in primary education;
- understanding and critical analysis of knowledge emerging from evidence based education to support teaching and learning.

3. Making judgements

- evaluating information reliability in education;
- adopting an evidence-informed approach in educational decision.

4. Communication

- using the specific terminology of the discipline to write the thesis and reports of educational experiments.

5. Lifelong learning skills

- developing methods for lifelong self-training through the analysis of educational research sources.


Knowledge of the fundamentals of the methodology of educational research is important for attending the course. Basic skills in using web technologies are useful for carrying out educational activities.


The course is structured into the following modules:

- experimental methods in education;
- developing an experimental project in primary education;
- evaluating an experimental project in primary education.

Teaching Methods

- Lectures (20%)
- Laboratory work (60%)
- Practical exercises (20%)

Verification of learning

The assessment method is different for attending and non-attending students.

- attending students: evaluation of an experimental project integrated by a written test consisting of a problem of statistical analysis aimed at assessing the effectiveness of an educational intervention;
- not attending students: evaluation by written test, composed of closed and open items.
