Objectives

Skin and venereal diseases: Know the main infections sustained by bacteria, fungi, yeasts, viruses with oral involvement; the most common inflammatory and neoplastic dermatological diseases with oral cavity symptoms. Also know the main sexually transmitted diseases when localized to the oral mucosa.

Prerequisites

Analytical and problem-solving ability, autonomous learning of new knowledge and critical processing of the information conveyed from the lecturer (Maastricht, 1999).
Lessons attendance is mandatory.

Contents

1.Skin and venereal diseases:
Fundamentals of anatomy and physiology of the skin, appendages and visible mucous membranes
Specialized methodology and semeiotics, elementary skin lesions
Bacterial, fungal and viral diseases
Eczematous diseases, Urticaria and angioedema and Psoriasis
Autoimmune bullous diseases and connective tissue diseases
Common and severe drug reactions
Angiomas and vascular malformations, Cutaneous neoplasms and lymphomas, Nevus and melanoma
General concepts of dermatological therapy
Epidemiology and prophylaxis of sexually transmitted diseases
Syphilis: clinic, serology and therapy
Gonorrhoea and non-gonococcal urethritis
Sexually transmitted HPV infections
Herpes genitalis
Balanoposthitis, vulvovaginitis

Teaching Methods

skin and venereal diseases: Class-room taught lessons scheduled from the faculty teaching calendar. The lecture slides saved as pdf are published in the lecturer page, at disposal of the regular students with password

Verification of learning

skin and venereal diseases: Oral or written examination according to with the local situation (every month - timetable published on the faculty website): semi-structured exam. Quality evaluation of: diseases knowledge acquired, ability of correlation between concepts, and presentation skill.
1 question from the program arguments for each module of the course. Final grade is expressed as the weighted average of each module, on the base of the assigned credits.
