Nicola Lai received the Laurea degree in chemical engineering at the University of Cagliari (Italy) in 1998 and his PhD in chemical engineering at the University of Pisa (Italy) in 2002. After he worked as a researcher at the research center CRS4, he continues his postdoctoral research at the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Case Western Reserve University. In 2015, he works as associate professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Old Dominion Univeristy. Now, he is associate professor at the Department of Mechanical, Chemical and Material Engineering of the University of Cagliari.

  • Mass transport and metabolism in cell, tissue & organ systems;
  • Mathematical modeling & analysis of dynamic and distributed system;
  • Systems Integrated Physiology;
  • Exercise metabolism and biochemistry;
  • Mitochondrial bioenergetics;

His research was supported by National Institutes of Health (NIH). He is author or co-author of more than 40 publications on specialized journals.
